Orange County CLash:
High School Mock Trial Tournament
Many high school competitors only get the chance to do a few rounds of mock trial each year. We want to offer more opportunities for students to participate in mock trials, build advocacy skills and learn about the legal system.
We are hosting a college-mock-trial-style tournament for high school students this October. The event will be held on UC Irvine’s campus on October 10th and 11th, 2026.
Details
We will use a modified college mock trial case, which will feature three witnesses per side. The case will include openings and closings, but no scored pretrial argument portion.
The tournament will have two rounds per day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon). The event will start at approximately 8 am and finish around 6 pm, with the final schedule provided months beforehand. Each day, both sides of your team will get to go once, for a total of four rounds at the end of the weekend.
Each participating team has the chance to qualify for team awards, individual witness awards and individual attorney awards. At the conclusion of the event, we will have a closing ceremony to present the awards. We will also have a photographer present who will be taking optional group photos and headshots for free to interested students.
Each team must have a minimum of six student members, but can have as many as twelve.
Each high school can send as many teams as we have available spots. Any interested group of six or more students is allowed to form a team and participate. Participation will cost $90 per student competitor for the full weekend.
We are hosting this event in collaboration with the SoCal Mock Trial League. That means the case fact pattern for this tournament (and all our rules) will be the same as that of another tournament happening in San Diego on October 24th and 25th, 2026. This provides a great opportunity for students participating in both events to get to use the case they’ve prepared and practiced even more – getting a lot more tournament experience and benefit out of the materials you’ve developed.
